The first Global Biobased Economy Conference is being hosted by the Alternative Fuels & Chemicals Coalition (AFCC) in partnership with the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Business-Cooperative Service (RBCS) and Live Oak Bank.

The conference will focus on promoting the USDA's BioPreferred® Program through a two-day conference and exhibition, with a reception Sunday evening, November 14, 2021. The program has been moved to a new home in USDA’s Rural Business-Cooperative Service, with new management and funding.

The conference will include featured speakers with plenary and break-out sessions on the global biobased economy, the USDA's BioPreferred® Program, biobased product manufacturing and certification, and the USDA's Section 9003 Biorefinery, Renewable Chemicals, and Biobased Products Manufacturing Assistance Program, which stimulates innovation by providing loan guarantees that allow companies to commercialize first-of-a-kind technologies to produce biofuels, renewable chemicals, and biobased products.

There will be three tracks for the breakout sessions:

  • Sustainable Feedstocks and Biofuels

  • Biobased Manufacturing and Applications: Renewable Chemicals, Bioplastics, Biomaterials

  • Flavors, Fragrances and Alternative Proteins for Food

Biobased product manufacturers will exhibit their products and share information on the benefits of biobased products compared with the less environmentally-friendly products they are designed to replace.
